The Grandparents Roots and Us Book is a touching tribute to all grandparents, especially those whose presence was limited during lockdowns. With approximately 200 pages, it compiles memories that highlight the fundamental role of grandparents in families and society.
The work includes 58 narratives written by authors from various regions of Portugal and the world, evoking stories, traditions, and affections. More than simple recollections, these are testimonies that reveal geographies, eras, and ways of life, reflecting the intensity of intergenerational bonds. Organized by Aida Baptista, Ilda Januário, and Manuela Marujo, and published by Alma Letra, this book celebrates roots, memories, and emotions, preserving stories that transcend time and reinforce the importance of the connection between grandparents and grandchildren.
Book – a work that pays tribute to all grandparents, especially those who, during lockdown periods, were deprived of their grandchildren's company. It brings together a collection of narratives written to remember how grandparents touched all our lives.
Lockdowns – during the pandemic, grandparents could no longer care for their grandchildren, and grandchildren could no longer receive their affection. The distance was bridged with technologies which, despite being useful, did not replace a lullaby, the comfort of a lap, the tenderness of a hug, or other gestures that only physical presence allows.
Stories – 58 authors, residing in various regions of Portugal and other countries, wrote texts evoking their grandparents and sharing memories of their relationship with them. The texts reveal emotional bonds, local traditions, different eras and ways of life, complementing each other in content and the joy of sharing.
